The Arab baths in Palma, is a beautiful sight to visit, if you appreciate flowers and idyll.
The Arab baths, or Banys Arabs as the name is, is a little oasis situated 3 minutes away from the cathedral.
The so called hammams, was a a bathing house during the Moorish period in Majorca (902-1231). Before it became hammams, this place is believed to have been the property of an Arab nobleman, the located considered, this close to the cathedral that used to be the main mosque in Palma.
The architecture of the Arab baths, is typical Byzantine!
Notice, how each of the pillars inside the baths, is different from one another. This is actually an early example of recycling, as the pillars are salvaged from ruins of Roman constructions.
The garden belonging to the Arab baths, is like a paradise garden of wild flowers, orange trees, palms and cactus. You will see how many locals come here to enjoy a refreshment during the day.
The Arab baths is not a very big place, but it’s an important place, because it tells you a story of a Palma that once was.
