Mansion of Can Prohens in Felanitx is a cultural center with exhibitions

Can Prohens, is a shining example of traditional architecture from the Late Baroque in the Mallorcan countryside, probably dating back from the 18th century.

The property was acquired by the municipality of Felanitx in 1970, from a family who had had the property for hundreds of years – after 16 years of renovation, the house was opened to the public as Casa de civilization (cultural center).

On the front side of the house, you see a balcony with iron railing, every year a speech is held, kicking off the St. Agustí festival in Felanitx.

Parts of the first floor, is dedicated to a permanent exhibition of Miquel Barceló’s works. Miquel Barceló was born and raised in Felanitx, therefore one of the city ‘sons’, and has also designed one of the most beautiful sculptures that decorates the cathedral La Seu.

Ca’n Prohens, is frequently used for intimate concerts, art exhibitions and lectures. Much effort is put in to create an authentic forum and venue for any cultural event. When Mallorca annually organizes Nit del Art festival, which is a week devoted to art, Felanitx has its own version, called Nitx Arte, the Ca’n Prohens is available for specially selected artists, new and established names.
