ESGLÉSIA VELLA DE CAIMARI
The temple was built around 1732, and later in 1845 expanded with a few chapels. The temple was never blessed or inaugurated as a church, but offered church services to the inhabitants of Caimari.
In 1890, the parish church of Immaculate Conception was officially taken into service, as a growing congregation of Caimari made it impossible to ignore the request for a real church.
In the period between 1890 – 1957, we only know there has been a cinema in this building, but not the exact years.
Today, the old temple here is used as a cultural activity center.
How to get to the Església Vella in Caimari
Caimari is a small and sleepy village found at the feet of the Tramuntana and nestled in between thousands of hectares of olive groves, which is also the main economical activity of this area. Caimari has historical references back to the prehistory, which has left a number of marks on the local culture and landmarks evidencing the rich heritage. Caimari is beautiful, tranquil and well connected to the major areas of the island via the road network. Also, Caimari is the starting point of the old pilgrim path leading to the famous Lluc monastery in Tramuntana.
