A visit at the old historic square in Alaró
The square of “Cabrit and Bassa” is the nerve center of the neighborhood called “dels Damunts”, which formed the urban center of primitive Alaró, already referenced since the 13th century.
History tells, that it was in this square that Cabrit and Bassa, heroic defenders of the Alaró castle, were cruelly executed by king Alfons II of Aragon because they fought for the kingdom of Mallorca.
In the center of the square there is an octagonal water cistern, that for many years served the population. After visiting the square, and felt the atmosphere of this antique neibourhood “dels damunts”, it is highly recommended to get lost in the network of streets and enjoy the traditional architecture of the area.
