Enjoy a scenic walk/hike to the old strategic lookout and watchtower of Penya des Migdia, rising above the Alcúdia and Pollença bay
The exceptional location of Penya del Migdia, at one of the highest points on the peninsula of Alcanada, makes this one of the most breathtaking walks in the area of Alcúdia and Pollença with amazing views over both bays.
At the beginning of the 16th century, the threat of the Turkish and North-African pirates became increasingly more intense. Therefore, many defensive constructions and artillery batteries were installed as part of an extensive defense system, including Penya des Migdia.
As a result, today you can still find this defensive installation from that time at Penya des Migdia. It is a walled little house with an outwork for just a couple of guardians with a protected access and two more buildings, which can be identified like a furnace for hot shot and an upper platform with a standing wall with a cannon. The whole military installation is closed by a brick wall only accessed via small narrow paths, so be careful.
Penya des Migdia can only be accessed by foot, so hiking / walking is your only option to experience this amazing place.
