Things to do in Cala Llombards

Cala llombards is tranquil area, and tourists attractions are not just around the next corner. However, Cala Llombards is home to one of Europe’s most picturesque coves and beaches, Calo des Moro, the phenomenon of Es Pontas and neighbor of the iconic old fishing harbor of Cala Figuera – just to mention a few.

One of the most picturesque beaches is located here in Cala Llombards, the Caló des Moro. The beach is nestled between two rocky cliffs protecting it from winds only letting calming sea breezes enter. The beach has a modest measurement of 30 meter in length and 20 meter in dept, but very shallow water perfect for snorkeling and swimming.

Visit the salt mines

Not far from Cala Llombards you will find the island’s largest salt mine and factory. The salt of Mallorca is a sought for luxury product that has been developed to come in various tastes. At the factory, you will learn about the salt of Mallorca, why it is so special and, sample some of the many varieties. A guided tour takes about a half an hour and is really interesting, especially if you love food.

Try something different, visit the only ostrich farm in Mallorca and learn about these curious birds. At the Artestruz farm, you can feed the ostriches, see the babies (when it’s time) and even ride an ostrich. Moreover, you will learn about ostrich products and you can purchase ostrich eggs.

Cala Llombards is home to a few of the most beautiful beaches on this side of the island. However, is you are looking for more space you can head over to Platja d’es Trenc, the biggest unspoilt beach with a length of 1900 meter.

Es Pontas

The curious horse shoe rock that erects from the water is the icon of the area of Cala Llombards. It is both beautiful and mysterious at the same time, worth stopping to take a photo of.

Botanicactus

Botanicactus is a big botanical garden covering a surface of more than 50,000 square meter. The garden offers a unique exhibition of tropical cactus and indigenous Balearic species, as well as a lake area of 10,000 square meter. A visit to the Botanicactus garden is a great way to discover and learn about the Balearic nature.

Visit the town of Santanyí

Santanyí is the main town of the municipality in which Cala Llombards is located, a very charming and interesting place to visit. In the heart of Santanyí you will find a nice little square full of bars and restaurants where most of the life is happening. Also at the square is the beautiful parish church of Sant Andreu in which the original medieval chapel has been preserved. There are a number of interesting local shops and galleries to discover in Santanyí, as well as a collection of landmarks worth visiting. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, you should go and visit the market for a vibrant and fun atmosphere as people haggling over all kinds of products.

Weekly market in Es Llombards

Every Saturday morning the local market in es Llombards is held. It is a charming little farmers and craft market that provides an authentic experience.

If you are looking for a bigger market place, head to the main town of Santanyí on Wednesdays or Saturdays for a much bigger and more tourist friendly market.

The village of Llombards hosts two annual events where local traditions are celebrated.

Festivitat de Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo is the patron saint of the village of Es Llombards, and honored on August 8 with a celebration. The week leading up to August 8th will have a fun program of activities for all ages including popular races, food, workshops, concerts and much more.
