Pollensa itself, is home to at least a handful of sights that you should have a look at, before start browsing tourist brochures and this website.
The Calvary steps, located in the northwestern end of the town, is a must. If your legs allow it, do see if you can climb the 413 steps up this hill, till you reach the chapel and the platform giving you panoramic views all over the coastline and even to Menorca.
If local culture is interesting to you, Pollensa offers a few museums, displaying works and life of famous and influential artists from Pollensa.
For hikers, Pollensa can also offer the old mountain fortress Castell del Rei (The King’s Castle), which is an amazing ruin to explore.
In the nearby town of Alcudia, you will find the remains of the very first capital of Mallorca, Pollen-tia. In Alcúdia, notice the massive town walls and the gates standing back from the 14. century when the king wanted to protect this important trading port from pirates.
Basically, there’s nothing you can’t do in Pollença! The area is situated, as a gate between the clear coastline and the dramatic mountain range, which leaves you with a natural playground of hilly terrain, water and good roads.

Sitting in one of the restaurants on a warm spring day, eating tapas and doing some people watching on the main square, is like therapy to me.
There’s a good collection of restaurants on the Plaça Major, where the church is. This is naturally where most tourists go for meals or snacks, but if you are here for more than a short break, do try to browse the streets of Pollença, I promise you that you will find something attractive!

The Tramuntana region
Tramuntana is both the name of the UNESCO protected mountain range that runs from south to north, as well as the name of the group of municipalities located in or close to these mountains.
When talking about Tramuntana in context of the mountain range, it is referred to as "Serra de Tramuntana", and when talking about the region, it is referred to simply as "Tramuntana".
The largest municipalities of the Tramuntana region, are Calviá and Andratx in the south and Pollenca in the north. The mountain range actually has its roots south of Malagá in Andalusiá.
The Serra de Tramuntana covers a surface of more than 30,000 hectares of landscape in Mallorca. The two main factors that make these mountains so unique, are the dry stone constructions and the hydraulic watering systems evidencing early day farming techniques. In almost any local area of the Tramuntana you travel, you will discover some of these very unique features which contributes to the picturesque settings.
Andratx & Portd'Andratx
