Mallorca is one of Europe’s top travel destinations for families, and it is no wonder. There are literally hundreds of fun and interesting activities to do that makes the island perfect for almost all ages and interests. A ride in the antique train
The antique train is one of the major tourist attractions in Mallorca. It is an authentic, fun and beautiful ride through some of Mallorca’s most scenic areas. The train line was opened in 1911, and the mahogany cars operating today are the original ones. The ride is bumpy and and there are just so many impressions to take in which makes it fun for everyone.
Splashing, sliding, jumping and laughing … Most kids love a water park packed with fun slides and big basins. Mallorca has three water parks: HidroPark (Alcúdia), Aqualand (Arenal) and Western Water Park (Magaluf), all three with a nice selection of activities for the entire family.
For families with infants and kids under 12, HidroPark is by far the best choice. There aren’t any “crazy” slides and the park has a special area for infants.
Western Water Park is a themed water park, with entertainment on the main scene a couple of times a day.
Aqualand is the biggest of the water parks in Mallorca and has something for everyone, but do tend to get crowded during high season.
Museums suitable for kids in Mallorca
La Granja d’Esporles
Getting kids involved in cultural activities might, to some families at least, be a bit of a hurdle to get over.
On the outskirts of mountain village Esporles, you will find the huge manor of La Granja d’Espoles, an iconic property transformed into an ethnological museum exhibiting life of the wealthy landowners and their servants throughout times. A great deal of work has been done to make the visit appealing to most ages. Most kids find it fun to walk about in the authentic settings, visit the free-range animals in the beautiful gardens and enjoy the free tastings of traditional Mallorcan pastries offered.
Sa Bassa Blanca
At a glance, you might not think that an art museum hidden in the hills of the Alcanada headland north of Alcúdia is the obvious choice for an activity with kids. But you will be surprised. Sa Bassa Blanca is a huge art museum that appeal to most ages. As you stroll about in the beautiful gardens, you will meet hundreds of curious figures, the wishing tree, the rose garden and the megalith constructions. Kids love to discover these many odd creations. Mallorca is home to a few adventure parks where you compete to complete courses using bridges, ropes, vines and lots of zip wires to get from treetop to treetop. Forestal Parc in Ca’n Pastilla and Jungle Parc in Santa Ponca and Bendinat. All three offer special courses for kids that makes it even more fun and less complicated to take on the adventure ahead.
Meet the animals
Kids love animals and there are many of them to meet in Mallorca.
Featuring one of Europe’s biggest shark tanks and replicas of different oceanic environments from all over the world, Palma Aquarium is a great place to learn about marine life.
On the roof of Palma Aquarium you will find a jungle full of exotic vegetation, waterfalls and tropical sounds, it’s a great scenic experience. There are many fun and interesting experiences at Palma Aquarium, a great activity for kids.
In Puigpunyent, one of the most beautiful places in the Serra de Tramuntana UNESCO World Heritage site, you should owe yourself a visit to the Reserva Park. In this mixed adventure and nature park, you will meet a range of different animals that has been taken in because they couldn’t survive on their own. Beside from the stunning natural settings and the animals, the park also offer a range of fun activities for kids and adults.

In the small rural area of Santa Eugenia, you should visit the Natura Parc, a private owned zoo that work to rehabilitate animals, as well as support various animal protection organizations. Once you know of the good deeds of this place, the experience becomes so much more real. There is a great mix of exotic, wild and domestic animals here that kids will love. Near Colonia de Sant Pere up north you will find the Rancho Grande where you and the family can go horse riding, visit the mini zoo, enjoy a line dancing performance, BBQ dinner and much more. Marineland in Palmanova (southwest) is renown for its amazing dolphin show. There are many fun animals to meet here, like the humboldt penguins, the sea lions, flamengos, selas, parrots and all the curious creatures in the tropical house. There is also a special kids zone with playgrounds etc.

Just off the coast of Sant Elm (Andratx), acroos a narrow strait, you will find the island and nature reserve of Sa Dragonera. Sa Dragonera has its name from its shape that makes it look like the back of a dragon. The nature and many vantage points on the island are a great attraction themselves, but there is one more thing here that makes the visit unique, namely the natural inhabitants, the black lizards. Marine activities with kids
A nice cruise on the sea under the Mediterranean sun is great with kids. Sailing is something most people and kids enjoy, it’s a calm and relaxing experience, with lots of impressions from underneath and the coasts. Many catamarans in Mallorca offer a glass bottom feature so that when the catamaran stops in a lagoon and people jump in for a swim, you can go to the lower deck and a projector will illuminate the clear underwater world and you can observe the magical environment and marine life.
Most beach resorts in Mallorca has a mole for the catamarans that sail along the coasts all day.
If a regular boat ride won’t cut it, then perhaps a dolphin safari is the thing. All it takes is that you are willing to get up a bit earlier that morning. From the harbor of Port d’Alcúdia (north), you can sail out and say good morning to these intelligent gentle mammals at sunrise.
There are 4 major go-kart circuits in Mallorca: Magaluf (southwest), Ca’n Pastilla (Palma) Alcúdia (north) and Cala Millor (east). Go-karts makes a fun and eventful time for all ages and levels. On the Kartingmania track in Alcúdia, kids compete in the daily Grand Prix for a grand prize.
