Porreres’ own art museum, located in the ancient hospital building of Porreres – a must-see for every art lover.
In August 1982, on the initiative of Joan Mesquida Ferrando i Anna, 18 pieces of art was brought to the Casa de la Vila in Porreres, with the generous thought that all residents of Porreres should be able to enjoy these works. Just three months later, another 18 artworks was contributed to the collection, with the same thought in mind.
Every year since then, at the festive ceremony ‘Sant Roc’ in Porreres, people have donated art to the collection such as, paintings, ceramics, drawings and sculptures.
It was not until 1985, that a genuine museum committee was established and it could officially call it the ‘Museum’.
The importance of this collection led to move the museum to Porreres’es old hospital building, on Carrer Prevere Agustí Font, on August 10, 2002, the 20th anniversary of the assembly.
