Torre del Cap Blanc is one of Mallorca’s old watchtowers erected in the modern age due to the threat of the Ottoman empire and North African pirates. It is the most well-preserved of its kind in the municipality of Llucamjor.
Torre del Cap Blanc was constructed in the years between 1579 and 1584, by Mallorcan architect Antoní Genovard, from Sineu. Genovard was also the man behind many of the beautiful old stone crosses still standing in Algaida.
The tower has a measurement of 10 meters in height and 4.13 meters in diameter. The guard would access the platform using a rope or an internal staircase built into the walls.
In total, about 85 watchtowers were constructed along the coasts of Mallorca between the 165th and 18th centuries due to the increading threats of privateers.
