A symbol of independence

Carrer de s’Aljub is one of the main streets in Santa Eugènia.

More importantly though, is this old water tank in the middle of the street, an old hydraulic system. The tank is divided into two pools, each with a kind of well on top of the limestone construction, which you can’t avoid noticing with its curved shapes.

Notice the iron rods built into the construction. During the Modern Age, these were used to buckle cattle firmly. Until the 1950s, this system was the city’s primary water supply.
