Enjoy a scenic excursion to the old hermitage of Victoria in the hills of Alcanada
Evidence of the first hermits dates back to the beginning of the 14th century. They stayed at Sa Talaia. The site has ever since been used intermittently as a place of worship.
The present construction, which still brings back memories of its defensive purposes, dates back to 1679. It has a Baroque nave, covered by a ribbed vault, with a Baroque altarpiece room where the image of la Mare de Déu de la Victòria is worshipped. The image is a 15th century polychromed carving which was probably brought by Fray Diego, a hermit who stayed in the area in the 15th century.
The chapel is located in a privileged setting in the hills on the Alcanada peninsula, offering blessed views over the Bay of Pollença. You can drive here by car or bicycle, or you can enjoy the scenic walk or hike here in the natural tarrain up here. Many hikers stop by the hermitage of Victoria during their trips around Alcanada, where they also reach other breathtaking viewpoints, such as Sa Talaia and Penya des Migdia, before they find go to to the secret unspoiled cove of Coll Baix for a picnic or swim in the clear water.
