A bit of history
The area of Binibona was first mentioned in the 13th century after the Catalan conquest of Mallorca, only at this time it was known as Binimala. However, in the 16th century, the name was changed due to superstition as mala means bad.
The first property that was built in Binibona was the Can Beneit, that appeared in documents from the late 16th century. At this time the building functioned as a chapel for masses.
However, it was not until the beginning of the 20th century that Binibona was considered a village with a total of 27 properties including a chapel and an elementary school. Up through the mid 20th century, Binibona decreased in population again as there was no employment to get in the area. It took some years, but eventually some of the properties were bought by entrepreneurs who established some of the wonderful finca hotels here.
Today, Binibona is home to 4-5 excellent finca hotels and agroturismos of high quality.
