Casal Solleric, is one of the single most beautiful pieces of baroque architecture found in Palma, at the same time, one of the last from the 18th century!
Casal Solleric, is these days mainly a public exhibition hall owned by the municipality of Palma, the exhibitions seen here, are all of varied genre and character.
From its construction back in 1764, the Casal Solleric belonged to Miquel Vallès Orlandis, marquis of Solleric. After Orlandis’ sudden death in 1790, the building was passed on to his nephew, Pere Joan Morell de Pastoritx i Vallès, because he never had children himself.
Casal Solleric was built by the famous architect, Gasper Palmer, while the beautiful iron works and carvings you see inside, was made by Italian artist, Antonio Soldati. Especially the patio, the Italian influence is very explicit, and which the archduke, Ludwig Salvatore, has called one of the most beautiful of its kind in Mallorca.
Casal Solleric was declared protected in 1932, and the last family who lived here was the Morell family between 1968-1975, before the building was bought by the city council of Palma.
Visiting Casal Solleric is a MUST when exploring the cultural routes in Palma. This exhibition hall is without a doubt one of the most outstanding you will find in Palma.
