The Santuari del Puig de Maria, is a former Medieval monastery situated on top of the hill of same name. Up here, you will explore a scenic scenery of Mediterranean flowers and bird-life, and of course, the breathtaking view over Pollenca.

Built in the fourteenth century, to plead the Virgin Mary for protection from the Black Death, this shrine now sports a Gothic Revival façade and welcomes visitors and overnight guests.

1348: Bishop, Berenguer Batlle, allowed the construction of the site.

1362: The first nuns moved into the monastery.

1372: The monastery, was officially canonized by the Catholic order.

1414: Sleeping hall, kitchen, dining hall and chapter house was established.

1495: The tower is added to the building, to spot for pirates.

1564: The bishop, Diego de Arnedo, forced the nuns to move from the monatery, due to fear of deceases.

1657: Major restoration works began. The most significant symbol of this restoration, is the altarpiece in Spanish Churrigueresque style, by Joan Antoni Homs.

1743: Due to some interesting finds from the Gothic era, a new restoration was conducted.

1858: The facades in neo-gothic style was made.

1886: A column by Miquel Costa i Llobera, in a bulletin for archaeology, makes the monastery popular amongst pilgrims who flee here.

1986: The last occupation of the monastery, was the sisters of the holy heart. These nuns only lived here for 2 years, due to lack of money.
