It was originally an Arabian farm called “Al-caniç”, formed by several properties; Son Jofre, Son Simó, Son Xina, Son Prim and Andritxol.
Post the Catalan conquest of Mallorca, the area of Andratx (Andrais) went to to the bishop of Barcelona. However, it was not until the 15th century, when the property was bought by Bartomeu Esteve that it got its name.
In the 19th century, famous archduke, Louis Salvador, reported about Possesiò Son Esteve from his travels in Andratx. Here, he writes about Son Esteve as the biggest production of wheat, corn and almonds, a protagonist the local area.
If you walk to the hill just south of Son Esteve, you will see the old mills that was in use back then. From here you can also enjoy the stunning views over Andratx.
