The property was once a Moorish farm called “Buendar”, but after the Catalan conquest of Mallorca, it was given to the noble Pomar family. Later on, the property passed to Guillem Desmás, from who it got its name.
Up through the 15th century, the estate changed its exterior as the defence tower was added.
The last changes to the estate, was in the early 20th century when the building was enlarged and redecorated in its current Neo-gothic and Neo-arabic styles.
In 1998, the town council of Andratx bought the building from its former owners.
Son Mas is open everyday except weekends, and exhibits various art collections all year round.
