Torre de Cala en Basset is located near the small fishing village of Sant Elm, overlooking the many small evergreen and azure bays along the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains, as well as the island of Sa Dragonera.
The tower was part of an extensive network of watchtowers erected along the coasts of Mallorca to guard against pirates.
The towers communicated using smoke signals so that the fortresses and towers closer to the villages could quickly evacuate the inhabitants and get the men ready for battle.
