Miquel Dels Sants Oliver (1864-1920), was one of the most important figures in Mallorcan journalism

He was born here in the charming little village of Campanet, but studied and gratuted in law in Barcelona. After this, he returned to Campanet where he started the local bulletin “La Roqueta”. He also did much work for the “La Almudaina” newspaper, founded by his father.
In the beginning of the 20th century, Sants Oliver returns to Barcelona to work as a librarian for Ateneu Barcelonès, a social space for the intellectual elite of Barcelona. At the same time, he was directing the newspaper, Diario de Barcelona, that was later merged with La Vanguardia. Under his leadership, La Vanguardia became the most distributed newspaper in all of Catalonia, and considered one of the most intellectual medias in Europe.
Miquel Dels Sants Oliver, was a part Mallorcan regionalism movement at its very early stage. He wrote several works, expressing high skepticism of the centralization of Spain.
