Llorenç Riber (1881-1958), was a Mallorcan poet, writer and priest
During his young years, he attended school at the famous Lluc monastery. After this, he went to Palma to become a disciple of Father Antoni Maria Alcover, a priest and linguist known for his dedication to the Catalan language.
Llorenç Riber, soon made a name for himself, as he won poetry prices in Palma and Barcelona. He founded the magazine “Mitjorn”, and participated in the first ever international congress in Catalan language.
Riber’s works really becomes interesting, as they reflect and honor the Noucentisme, a Catalan movement that pays special tribute to nature, and was seen as a direct response to modernism. His works in both verse and prose was awarded several times, and in 1927, he was appointed official representative of the Royal Academy of Spanish Language, in Mallorca.
The memorial plate on the facade, was put here in 1981, to honor the hundredth birthday of Riber.
