The Sóller Botanic Garden was founded in 1985 and opened to the public in 1992. It is a centre for the conservation, study and understanding of the Mediterranian flora, and specifically that of the Balearic Islands.
In April 1997, a foundation was set up under the patronage of the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Council of Mallorca, the Sóller Town Council, the University of the Balearic Islands, the Caixa de Balears “Sa Nostra” savings bank, the Ibero-Macaronesic Association of Botanic Gardens, and the Balearic Natural Science Museum Association.
