Tramuntana Mountains Tour with Local Guide & Lunch
From: €64
Torre de Llebeig is visited on the dragon island, Illa de sa Dragonera, 7 km from the port of Sant Elm.
Torre de Llebeig is named after the special warm wind that comes from the southwest and blows to the east, which in the Balearic Islands is called “llebeig”.
The tower was constructed in 1585 and is strategically located on the island’s southernmost cliffs.
Torre de Llebeig was not armed with a cannon or mortar, just a single guard with a musket or other light handgun. The tower acted exclusively as an observation tower and was to communicate with the towers on the coasts of Mallorca, using smoke signals, in case of threats.
The tower was renovated in 2004 for just over € 50,000.
To reach the old watchtower and the current lighthouse of Llebeig, you can follow a marked trail that starts by the small harbor area by Cala en Lledó. The tour should take you approx. 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete.
