Can Bordils is a medieval house that was rebuilt in the 16th century by the influential and wealthy Sureda family, whose coat of arms can be seen above the windows of every room and on the arches.
The name, however, derives from the Bordils family who inherited the mansion due to a marriage between the daughter of the Sureda family and son of the Bordils family.
Can Bordils has undergone several transformations, but the most important are the ones done during the 19th and 20th century by famous architect Guillem Forteza, whom was responsible for the emblematic courtyard.
Its original appearance has been recovered thanks to a project by the architect Miquel Vicens, whom at the same time turned the building into the home of the municipal archive of Palma.
