The house was built at the end of the 19th century by the Planes family. In 1972, the City Council acquired the mansion and turned it into a museum of Ethnology and Local History.
With the 1988 refurbishment of the mansion, the Museum of Contemporary Art was established. The place became dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of art.
It currently has four completely differentiated and, at the same time, complementary spaces.
At the ground floor you will find the largest collection of Contemporary Arts, which offers a wide variety of artworks made by Mallorcan artists.

These collections are particularly interesting, as these mark the break with the post-impressionism traditions of predominantly landscape and eclecticism inspired works.
The originality of this collection lies in the fact that it has been formed thanks to the selfless contributions of hundreds of artists who for twenty years participated in the Meetings of Painters of Sa Pobla.
n the ground floor there is also the White Room which currently houses the Museum of Sant Antoni i el Dimoni (Saint Anthony and the Deamon), as well as a workshop area. The first floor has two large exhibition halls.
