Torre Nova de sa Roca Fesa – or Torre de Santanyí – belongs among Mallorca’s historical and cultural heritage treasures.
The tower stands on the rock formations of the same name, Roca Fesa, with its 9.2 meter high cylinder.
Throughout the Middle Ages, especially in the period between 1520 and 1611, Mallorca was severely tested by Ottoman pirates from Turkey, who had allied themselves with Berbers from North Africa. The pirates attacked Mallorca’s coasts from all sides, which is why it was decided to complete the construction of a good 85 observation and defense towers around the island.
Torre Nova de sa Roca Fesa underwent renovation in 2004, where a metal staircase was added, so that it is now possible for visitors to climb up to the platform and gain access to the wonderful view and insight into the daily life of the watchman.
