Llorenç Villalonga was one of the most significant Mallorcan authors of the 20th century, namely because of his works written in Catalan with characters and settings inspired from his life in Palma and Binissalem, which allows you a unique insight in the socio-cultural aspects of Mallorca of that time.
You are invited to enter a fascinating world of one of the protagonists of Mallorcan litterature, exhibited in documents, pictures, manuscrips, and even diaries from the time of the Spanish Civil War, all of which testifies to a unique Mallorcan intellect with significant influence on the local culture.
At the museum, you can download a mobile app for self-guided tours in your preferred language (Esp, Cat, Eng and De).
The museum is housed in Villalonga’s former home, the charming 17th century mansion of Can Sabater in Binissalem.
The architecture of the house, which allows us to discover an emblematic manor house in Binissalem. From room to room we discover the austerity of that life in the rural environment, the family and individual rituals, the tasks and labors of the subsistence economy.
The Can Sabater building was acquired by the Consell de Mallorca (1996) and renovated to adapt to its new use as a museum. The visit to the house of Can Sabater is an exponent of the stately architecture of Binissalem, a space full of architectural finesse, as well as ethnographic and literary echoes.
