Torre de sa Pedrissa enjoys one of the most privileged locations on the island, at the beautiful coast of Deià, 270 meter above sea level.
The tower was built between 1612 and 1614 to guard the coast when pirates approached. The tower was a part of an extensive network of watchtowers built to defend the island. The towers communicated with each other via smoke signals until the signal reached the towns and an army could be mobilized. The 15th, 16th and 17th century was particularly intense in the Mediterranean region as the Ottoman empire launched numerous campaigns against the archipelago and, even allied with pirates from North Africa.
