Torre de Rafeubetx was constructed around the year 1580, as part of the defense system in Mallorca.
Throughout the 16th century, pirate attacks were violent and frequent around Mallorca, where they encamped on the surrounding islands of Sa Dragonera and Sa Cabrera, among other places.
Torre de Rafeubetx was a pure lookout tower and was therefore not armed with a cannon or mortar. The guard of the tower probably had a musket or other lighter handgun.
The towers along the coasts all had visual contact with each other and conveyed the message of threats using smoke signals. Torre de Rafeubetx is ingeniously located between the absolute extremes of the coast and on the edge of a forest, with access to abundant firewood.
